I have seen some of the worst bridesmaids’ dresses, and I am sure you have too. I am not making fun of anyone and their style, but I feel like this is one of the areas of a wedding that can be missed, if not planned properly. With so many great ideas on sites like Pinterest, you may be spared… just by sheer inspiration, but if I can add a little bit of guidance here; I feel I have done my part at being your internet friend.
- Pick your dress or, have a general idea of what you will be wearing. You need to have your dress either purchased, tried on or something close. Have an idea of your length, your style and your material. Why do you need to know this? Because if your dress is super formal, with a train for days, you do not want to buy ultra-causal print bridesmaid dresses, or bright taffeta.
- Know your tribe. What are your girls like? Yes, your wedding is completely and totally about you, but you might want to think about their body types, their hair, their personalities. If your crew is all the same, you can mix and match or have everyone wearing the same thing. If your crew is a little more eclectic, mixing and matching may be the direction you want to go. Keep your girls in mind.
- Know what your goals are. Is the goal of your wedding a big fun celebration, or is your wedding a little more of a traditional send off? There is nothing wrong with either wedding. Each wedding definitely has a little bit of both, but what type of wedding are you throwing? You will want: things to flow well, your tribe feeling good and looking good. Prepping for this in advance will alleviate some stress for you as your big day approaches.
- What is your goal for your bridesmaids. Is the dress you choose for them something you want them to be able to wear after your wedding. Is your dress a memory, a weekend throw-on or an Easter Sunday number? Whatever you choose will be perfect, but know your girls well enough to know what’s best for them… and you. I know, I know… it’s about you, but they are also about you, so seriously think of your girls; you don't have to tell them anything about this thought process. You may not want a bunch of opinions, but come ready to play when it’s time to shop!
Accessorize accordingly. Yes, this is a shameless plug for jewelry, but it’s pretty important for this day. Have you already decided what will complement the dress? Not just jewelry, but shoes? What does your day look like; what will your tribe be doing? Are you dancing the night away? Take all of this into consideration and pick shoes and jewelry that fits the vibe!

Relax and pick whatever you want. Yes, I just said all of that… but the dream in your heart is the most important thing. Do you girl, and CONGRATULATIONS!
